What Did You Say?

Unbelievable Things That My High School Students Have Said

About the Author

Eric Grippa was born in March of 1970 in Cincinnati Ohio.  He graduated from New Richmond High School in 1988.  From there he attended Morehead State University for 2 years where he majored in Biology and Secondary Education.  He also had a short stent as a place kicker on the Morehead State football team.  In 1990 he transferred to Northern Kentucky University, where he graduated in 1994 with his Bachelors of Science.  He then started teaching and coaching football later that fall at Goshen High School in Goshen Ohio.  Both of his parents were in education, so it was no real surprise that he went into teaching himself.  Eric taught Biology and a few other courses at Goshen for 3 years when he had an offer to move to Glen Este High School.  He made the move to GEHS in 1997 and has been teaching Biology and Human Anatomy there in room 119 ever since.   He earned his Masters in Education from Wright State University in the spring of 2000.  He is still taking classes and adding onto his graduate degree to this day.

Eric was married to his lovely wife Tina in July of 1993.  Tina, a biologist as well, started out working in a lab, but later went back to school and became a teacher herself.  She has contributed to the book “What Did You Say?” a few times as well.  In the summer of 1998 their only son Evan was born.  He is one of his Dad’s biggest fans, always wanting to here funny lines from the book.

Outside of the classroom, Eric is often times found in the woods.  He is an avid outdoorsman who loves to hunt and fish.  His favorite outdoor activity is the pursuit of whitetail deer with his bow and arrow.  His father got him started hunting as a youngster and was there when he passed his hunter safety course at age 11.  Not only does he hunt with his bow but he competes with it as well.  He is on the Pro-Staff for PSE (Precision Shooting Equipment) archery and travels around the Midwest competing in archery tournaments every summer.  Having been ranked in the top 10 in the nation 3 separate times over the years and taking 3rd place at the International Bowhunting Organization’s World Championships in 2009, his skill with a bow and arrow speaks for itself.

Even though he has now published the book he has talked about for so long, he still doesn’t consider himself to be an author.  “I’m a biology teacher.  It is what, and who I am.  I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for my career in education.  Take this book for example.  Where else would I come up with such great material if I were not in my classroom?”
